kpm institute programs
The KPM Institute probes the intersection of what children want and need from school and what their families and communities expect and can offer in support of their children's education.

KPM Conversations

  • The KPM Institute and its programs are introduced in weekly Open Doors Coffees, which last one hour.
  • A monthly Educational Dialogue gives participants a chance to explore educational issues and solutions.
  • A Child’s World Workshop is offered three times a year. Participants experience the KPM Approach to Children through an interactive workshop, and experiment with putting the Approach into practice.
  • Two School Open Houses offer a chance to talk about the school, its methods, and the experience of the children, teachers, and parents; prospective parents are especially welcome.

Stewardship of an Historical Site

  • In 2001, Sri Atmananda Memorial Estate, the site of the KPM Institute and its school, was listed by the National Park Service in the National Register of Historic Places as being especially worthy of preservation. The historical site includes the mansion and associated buildings built by Edgar Howard Perry, a prominent businessman and influential community leader in Austin in the first half of the 20th century. The later use of the site (1947-50) by Saint Mary’s Academy is also of historical interest. Saint Mary's Academy was a private school that played a significant role in education in Austin.
  • The ten-acre Estate is located on the edge of Hyde Park, and the KPM Institute is a member of both the Hyde Park and Hancock neighborhood associations.
  • Some facilities are available for community use and incidental rentals.
